Keyboard shortcut to lock desktop not functioning after compiz activated

My ubuntu Hardy machine refused to lock its desktopĀ  when I hit ctrl+alt+l on my laptop keyboard after I activated the compiz. Just the same case when I used Feisty. This is because compiz take over hardy’s keyboard shortcut into its control CMIIW.

So, to be able to have the keyboard shortcut functioning again, I have to make some changes on my compiz. I use CompizConfig Setting Manager (ccsm) to make the changes. Here are the steps;

  1. Open the ccsm windows from menu System – Preferences – Advanced Desktop Effects Settings (GUI) or
    From command line, key in ccsm + enter
  2. Choose General Options – Commands Tab
  3. On the groupbox of Commands tab, we have Commands, Key bindings, Run terminal Command, Screenshot commands, Screenshot key bindings.
  4. Well, I use the Commands – Command line 0 and key in this command line on to its text box ;
    gnome-screensaver-command –lock
    which I think that it is just the same command my Hardy would call when I stroke ctrl+alt+l before my compiz activated :)
  5. After that, I move on to Key bindings – Run command 0 and click the Disabled control button to grab new keystroke combination.
  6. Click enabled on the pop up window and move on by clicking OK button
  7. Click grab key combination on the edit run command 0 window
  8. I choose to use super button (which is windows button on my laptop) and button l on my laptop keyboard, so it is the combination of super+l button.
  9. Click OK if you already satisfy with your key combination, just beware of key combination conflicts with others effects on your compiz.
  10. Just that.

Now I can use the super+l button to lock my desktop :D
